AVA: Yakima Valley

Vineyard: McIntire Vineyard, Sunnyside

Production: 24 cases

Harvest Date: 11/4/2011

Brix at Harvest: 25.3

Aging: 14 months in neutral French oak

Tasting Notes:

Saturated purple-black color, and aromas of fresh blackberries, with hints of spices. Rich and full-bodied, with flavors of ripe plum, berries, and dark chocolate, with a long, peppery finish.

Winemaker Comments:

Extra time on the vine - a very late and high-risk harvest - allowed the grapes to achieve full ripeness, even in this much cooler than normal vintage. This is an assertive and distinctly Yakima Valley expression of Petite Sirah, a synthesis of the barren and rocky growing site, the cool and stormy vintage, and ANIMALE's non-interventionalist approach to winemaking. It will pair well with flavorful cuisine now, or reward careful aging.
