Winemaker Comments:

A varying blend, assembled every few years, in an endeavor to create a wine greater than the sum of its parts, and named for the winemaker's mother. The 2014 was a vintage which provided perfect building blocks for a sturdy and interesting table wine. The heart of the wine, 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, was aged in a new French oak barrel for four months. This Cabernet was grown in the western suburbs of the city of Yakima, a cool-climate growing spot. There, the grapes achieved optimum ripeness, but retained their natural acidity, resulting in a wine both food-friendly and age-worthy. The remaining three components of the blend were aged in neutral French oak. The Cabernet Franc (25%) broadens the palate, contributing interesting exotic notes to both the aromas and flavors, including meat, mint, cedar, anise, and baking spices. The small amount of Pinot Noir adds a roundness to the body, and the Petite Sirah provides saturated color.

Tasting Notes:

Dark garnet-red color. Perfumed aromatics of fresh cherries, with hints of cocoa powder, toasty oak, and butterscotch. Full-bodied, with firm tannins. Accessible now, with flavorful food, or suitable for long-term aging.
